About us
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is recognised as a leader in cyber security research & education. In 2017 ECU was recognised by the Australian Federal Government as one of just two Academic Centres of Cyber Security Excellence in Australia, and the only one in WA.
ECU has been chosen by the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) to deliver Cyber Training to the ADF’s Cyber workforce through a new Incident Analyst Course. The aim of this course is to provide cyber training to ADF personnel in the underpinning skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours essential to the role articulated in the ADF Cyber Framework so that they can collect and analyse technical data in order to determine the cause of the incident and develop actions to remediate the affected network.
The Incident Analyst Course is delivered on a full-time basis during business hours and runs for approximately 100 days. It is designed as formal on the job residential training to meet the core functions of ADF personnel responsible for basic level Incident Analyst roles. The curriculum consists of modules presented in a face-to-face manner to enable leaners to conduct basic level digital analysis and forensics tasks.
The course is delivered at Simpson Barracks, located approximately 18 km northeast of the Melbourne CBD.
ECU is seeking a suitably qualified instructor to join our team of instructors in Melbourne and contribute to the delivery of this exciting initiative. Our instructors deliver the curriculum and inspire students to persevere through the challenges of learning complex subjects. As this is an evolving area, there is also opportunity for you to contribute to the content of the current and future courses.
For you to be successful in this role you must have:
Previous cyber security or information technology teaching experience, through a course, workshop, team training, etc;
An eagerness to shape the skills, minds, and trajectories of the newest generation of defence cyber security professionals;
Professional cyber security experience;
Proven knowledge and skills associated with Incident Response policy and procedures and foundation knowledge and skills required to establish and operate systems for handling and processing Incident Response data;
The ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills with Information Technology such as networking, virtualisation, lab design and configuration, operating systems such as Linux;
Demonstrated experience with scripting and programming languages such as PowerShell or Python;
Knowledge and skills associated with the conduct of technical incident investigations in support of the Incident Response function including digital analytics and digital forensics, such as malware analysis, Windows system analysis, Network traffic analysis;
Great communications skills and the ability to communicate security management and administration - including the creation and enforcement of a security policy, the management of security staff and tips for working alongside the IT department
You must also:
Currently hold an Australian Defence Clearance – Baseline or capable of obtaining an Australian Defence Clearance up to NV Level 1
Hold a relevant vocational and/or industry certifications or competencies to at least the level of instruction being delivered or assessed i.e. Cert IV.
Need to relocate to Melbourne.
Be suitable to obtain a Victorian Working with Children check.
Training delivery is between January to December, with a six week break through the Christmas period. The current course completed May 2023 and next course will commence July 2023.
