About the Role
The Manager Modern Slavery Risk is a key role within AGL’s Group Risk Compliance and Insurance team (GRCI). GRCI is responsible for the delivery of a leading enterprise risk, compliance and insurance function that delivers superior results in the dynamic landscape of the Australian energy industry. Through a disciplined and rigorous approach, GRCI supports the broader business to adopt best practice approaches to governance, risk management and compliance.

This role will work with business stakeholders across the enterprise to understand and assess AGL’s exposure to modern slavery risk, and to design and implement best practice solutions to ensure this risk is managed effectively. The Manager Modern Slavery Risk will also design and deliver various training and awareness campaigns to ensure stakeholders are aware of AGL’s obligations, and draft AGL’s annual Modern Slavery Statement for Board approval.

  • Provide the business with practical and pragmatic advice to improve the maturity of Modern Slavery risk management practices
  • Undertake work with AGL’s Sustainability team to manage AGL’s ongoing commitment to the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, covering the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption
  • Prepare periodic reporting on AGL’s progress on its modern slavery program.
  • Co-chair monthly cross-enterprise Modern Slavery Working Group meetings.
  • Manage and assess key modern slavery compliance indicators put in place to monitor the effectiveness of AGL’s modern slavery risk management practices
  • Build strong working relationships with external stakeholders who are actively engaged with human rights and modern slavery related matters (e.g. United Nations Global Compact Network Australia) and where necessary, represent AGL at external human rights related events
  • Support business areas in their assessment of the Modern Slavery risk implications of new vendors, new contracts and new business and liaise with AGL’s procurement and legal teams to develop fit for purpose solutions.
  • Draft AGL’s annual Modern Slavery Statement in accordance with the requirements of the Act, and manage internal processes for the Statement to be approved by the Board
  • Design and deliver awareness and educational opportunities to the business and its stakeholders to support compliance with AGL’s Human Rights Policy and Modern Slavery requirements, and to ensure the business understands where and how it can continually improve the management of its human rights related risks.
